Peipsi Food Street — Kayaking Adventure

Every year on 15–16 August, the Peipsi Food Street festival draws thousands of Estonians along a 175-kilometre route to savour the very best food the Lake Peipus region has to offer. I've been part of this event for six years — from the kitchen side — but last year I stepped back. Still, the pull is undeniable. This time, though, I'm returning as a guest. Let's be honest: two days of racing from restaurant to restaurant by car is more of an eating rally than a truly immersive experience. So we're doing things differently. We'll take to Lake Peipus by kayak. We won't cover the entire route, but the two-day paddle from Mustvee to Nina is a thoroughly enjoyable and sporty journey — one where we earn every calorie and stop at every pop-up restaurant along the way. We'll spend the night under canvas at Kurepesa campsite on the lakeshore, where you'll also find Restaurant Peipsimere Miraaz, a place I've had the pleasure of cooking at in previous years. And in keeping with a tradition I hold dear — come evening, I'll be mixing Peipsimere Miraaz cocktails around the campfire.
