Kayaking to Piirissaar — an Adventure on Lake Peipus

Piirissaar is the largest and only permanently inhabited island on Lake Peipus. While it can easily be reached by ferry — or even by car — we offer something far more memorable: an active, immersive adventure by kayak. This two-day journey weaves together nature, life on the water and a genuine taste of Lake Peipus heritage. The trip begins at Laaksaare harbour, where you can leave your car in the harbour area. Each kayak holds approximately 60–70 litres of gear per person, so pack thoughtfully and keep it light. Your guide will take care of the shared essentials — cooking equipment, ingredients for the evening meal, a first-aid kit, drinking water, and fire-making tools. From Laaksaare, we paddle roughly 7 km out to Piirissaar. With a favourable wind it's a pleasant workout; into a headwind it becomes a genuine physical challenge. On the first evening we set up camp and cook dinner together around the fire. The following morning is reserved for exploring the island on foot. Please note that the guide reserves the right to adjust the route or programme as conditions require. Piirissaar is a place unlike any other in Estonia. The island is home to three villages and a wealth of sights: historic churches, a local museum, the legendary 'Titanic' (a famous local landmark), a ferry, and much more. It is especially known for its Old Believer culture and centuries-old tradition of onion growing. On the return journey we aim to hug the northern coastline, stopping at secluded sandy beaches and choosing our course according to wind and weather conditions.
